Missing Out is Good
Fear of missing out is a real thing. Here’s the thing - if you are living your life you will always miss out on something good or bad. Part of missing out is a part of life.
If you are working towards living an intentional life you will especially be missing out on certain events, people or even opportunities. You simply cannot be everywhere and get everything you want all the time.
I am convinced that we truly do not need everything we want and desire as well. It is so easy to Romanticize a job, person, or performance opportunity. I have heard so many stories of people getting what they want only to discover it wasn’t exactly what they expected and they quickly realize that it also is not what they want.
It is okay to not have everything but we need and to take a couple of steps back and ponder: why we want or feel that we need something or someone. Identifying your needs and what truly benefits your life is important and should be what guides you on your decisions.
SIDE NOTE: There is also a difference between wants and needs.
The whole FOMO life has always existed but now it’s on hyper drive because of how interconnected we are via the internet. The solution is to be intentional with your time. Don’t consume yourself with too much social media because so much of it is curated. People will post the good stuff but not necessarily the real stuff. Focus on yourself and your live, in-person community. How can you create meaning for yourself and others?
One of my biggest goals is to focus on missing out more so I can be a part of the best things in my life right now.
